TheraMe!

A mental health app aimed at tracking moods and providing counselling for young adults.

THE PROBLEM

TheraME! is a mobile app designed to provide guidance to individuals who are new to therapy. Often, people may feel uncertain about where to begin on their journey to mental wellness, and may also have limited understanding of the different types of therapy and mental health options available to them. To help with these issues, I have created TheraME! to help young teens and adults gain the confidence they need to start their therapy journey.

Users need a way to communicate with experienced professionals in their respective branches of psychology because they need easier access to mental health professionals, especially as we further into the virtual world.

User Research

Competitor Research

Research was conducted to get a better understanding of the already established market in the mental health sector. I scoped out the two main competitors and conducted extensive research to see how I could find a gap in the market.

User Surveys

The evidence gathered from the participants has revealed that 90% of the Gen z demographic asked believed that mental health is an important factor in one’s development.

Furthermore, 19 participants believed that it is important in today's world, to manage and track their mental health.

52% of participants, more than half have not used a mental health and wellness app in the past.

The main reasons found in the following question are, the cultural stigma around seeking mental health and well as individuals finding themselves lacking the time in their schedule to fit in the time.

Though participants find mental health important, a mere 30% have seeked out the help of a professional.

The reasons participants have revealed to be apprehensive is as that 30% would rather solve their problem on their own, while 25% believe their problems may not be big enough.

A majority of participants have found they most liked the visual and aesthetics of the apps, while the other 25% have not used an app to comment.

35% of participants have found the reason they most dislike mental health apps is due to the cost and whether putting the time in will pay off.

Users

User Persona

After conducting extensive research, i created two primary user persona’s who i felt would best fit the demographic TheraMe! was targeted towards. These persona’s will allow any stakeholders or relevant parties to better visualise who the app will be beneficial for.

User Journey

By mapping out the various steps and interactions that users might go through,

I aimed to uncover potential pain points, identify areas for improvement, and ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience. These user journeys not only provided valuable insights into the user's mindset and expectations but also served as a guide for the design and development process.

Sketches

Low-fidelity wireframes

To better visualize and conceptualize my ideas, I began sketching out various ideas that incorporated the main features of the app. This process allowed me to explore different design possibilities and iterate on my initial concepts.

To bring these ideas to life and refine them further, I utilized Figma. By converting my initial low-fidelity and mid-fidelity wireframes into more polished and detailed designs, I was able to give my ideas a more concise and professional form.

Mid-fidelity wireframes

After completing the initial phase of drafting ideas using low-fidelity wireframes, the next step in the process was to create more structured designs. These designs were developed with the goal of moving the prototype forward and enhancing its design and functionality.

Designs

To Summarise, the TheraME! project was a great first introduction into helping me develop my skills as a UX/UI designer. It not only provided me with valuable experience but also allowed me to explore and expand my knowledge of psychology as I transitioned into the UX world. I wanted to pay homage to my love for Psychology by incorporating its principles into my first app design, which added a unique and meaningful touch to the project. Throughout this journey, I have gained a deeper understanding of design and ideation, constantly seeking ways to improve and refine my skills. As I continue my UX journey, I am committed to iterating and working on TheraME! to make it even better, incorporating new ideas and implementing user feedback to create a truly exceptional user experience.
